about

Originally titled "Vale Hominibus" (an internet Latin translation for "Farewell Mankind"), this album was inspired by the sound and experience of the track "Green Wall" from Disc 2 of the flur EP. Heavily influenced by noise artist Merzbow and "power ambient" artists such as Tim Hecker and Sunn O))), the goal was to attempt to create a new take on the "harsh noise wall" sub-genre by focusing on maximizing distortion of repeated harmonies -- making something in a sense like "melodic noise wall." Whether or not certain tracks achieve this result, this album became a wide survey of ambient and noise exploration.

Taking inspiration from Pantone's "Color of the Year" from 2000 to 2019, each track serves as a meditation and improvisation on the way suggestions of color interact with the audio experience. Taking a rather pessimistic stance, the original album description was "A Pantone eulogy for a dying Earth," which still stands in a sense. The final assembly of these 20 tracks could serve as a collection of stems for live performances. The variety of styles present allow for diverse experiences through the mixing and matching of complementary or clashing colors and prepared visuals.

The album art contains RGB approximations of Pantone's named colors beginning with 2000 in the top left corner and then reading horizontally, left to right.

This release was created using the Arturia iMini iPad app, plugged directly into a MacBook running Rodrigo Constanso's "The Party Van" (rodrigoconstanzo.com/the-party-van/). Each track contains a repeating or improvised harmony that is then disrupted as much as possible by the wide array of effects and processes present in TPV, all controlled by an older monome 64.

Headphones and high volume recommended.
